Artist Scholar Designation within Richmond Scholars
Each year, the University enrolls up to twenty five Richmond Scholars with full tuition, housing, and food scholarships, including students who will major in the visual / performing arts. Richmond Scholar awards go to first-year students who have demonstrated extraordinary academic achievement, exceptional personal qualities and potential for ongoing contributions to society. Submitted portfolios are reviewed to identify scholars who demonstrate extraordinary talent and a clear passion for visual or performing arts. In addition, a number of admitted students are also offered one-third tuition Presidential Scholarships. All U.S. and international first-year admission applicants are eligible for consideration.
To apply for Richmond Scholars, follow the Selection Process instructions, to have your artistic talent considered in the scholarship process be certain to submit a portfolio of artistic work for consideration for artistic merit scholarships. If you have questions about the required materials, candidates should contact the Scholars Office.
Philip Frederick, Jr. Memorial Award in Art
Established in 1981 by Ms. Ann P. Frederick, this award honors a student in visual and media arts practice or art history on the basis of character, ability and academic excellence as determined by the Department of Art and Art History’s chair and faculty.
Bobby Chandler Annual Award in Art from the Kip Kephart Foundation
Established in 1989 by Mr. Homer H. "Kip" Kephart in memory of Mr. Bobby Chandler, this award recognizes an outstanding art major as selected by visual and media arts practice and art history faculty.
