University Museums
The University of Richmond boasts three stunning museums on its campus, all of which offer opportunities for art and art history students to curate and exhibit work. The Joel and Lila Harnett Museum of Art holds the University’s primary collection while the Joel and Lila Harnett Print Study Center displays and archives works on paper. The Lora Robins Gallery of Design From Nature highlights the natural sciences and decorative arts. The University Museums maintain a full exhibition schedule, complemented by programming that includes lectures and artists’ talks.
Modlin Center for the Arts
In addition to being a regionally acclaimed performing arts venue, the Modlin Center for the Arts houses studio space and galleries that studio art majors enjoy. Fourth-year students who are completing a thesis in studio art are eligible to receive their own studio space. The studios are large and bright and inspire them to produce the work they’ll showcase in the Senior Exhibition, which is held in the Pickels Gallery at the Modlin Center. Students in digital art classes can check out a range of equipment at the Modlin Center and have access to two labs where they can create and edit their work.
Visual Resources Library
The visual resources library is housed in the Department of Art and Art History and staffed by a visual resources librarian. As subject liaison to Boatwright Memorial Library, the librarian is available by appointment for research consultations with students and faculty. Images are accessible to all students across campus, regardless of discipline.
